Esta compilação contem material da EMI, com quem o Matumbi assinou por quatro albuns, após o desprezo da Trojan.
A coletanea cobre gravações de 78 a 81, lançada em cd em 2001 remasterizada e também em Lp em 2004 pela Virgin, segundo o RootsArchive.
É importante destacar que o Matumbi sempre esteve conexo com seu tempo aliado de sua proposta musical e social. O nome desta coletanea faz referencia a serie britanica da BBC de 78 a 79 - Empire Road - nela toda realizada e produzida por pessoas de varias etnias, negros e asiaticos e em maioria imigrantes ou filhos de imigrantes de colonias britanicas, logo, retratando em parte seu ambinete londrino; e não por menos a seria se passa em Handsworth area de Birmingham.

It´s good to note that the name of the album is a related to a (Empire Road) British television series, made by the BBC between 1978 and 1979.
The series is notable for being the first British television series to be written, acted and directed entirely by black artists. Styled like an ethnic version of Coronation Street, Empire Road depicted life for the African-Caribbean, East Indian and Asian residents of a racially diverse street.
The series was filmed in the Handsworth area of Birmingham.
